JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: The Training Manager

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours: 40 work hours per week

Location: Kolkata

Job Purpose:

The Technical Officer will be part of a team based in Kolkata, to support VAANI’s training programmes.

KEY TASKS

Functional Responsibilities

1. Support Coordinator

To support the programmes team in organizing workshops, seminars, parent group activities and any other programmes  with team members and/or organisations and as required by  VAANI Deaf Children’s Foundation

2. Support Trainer

  • To initially support and later conduct training for :
    • Parents/families of deaf children in urban and rural settings
    • Teachers of deaf children at the pre-primary  and primary levels in all subjects
    • Resource teachers in mainstream schools running the IED programme
    • CBR /anganwadi workers and interested members of the community
  • Prepare handouts, posters, booklets and other material as required for training and   awareness programmes
  • Initially support and later conduct awareness programmes in urban and rural settings
  • Develop a databank of activities for future use, by maintaining comprehensive records
  • Demonstrate the use of the Indian Sign Language as mode of communication

3. Teacher-demonstrator

Demonstrate good teaching practice at the pre-primary and primary levels in:

  • A home based situation with families in urban and rural settings
  • A classroom in a special school.
  • A mainstream classroom

General Responsibilities:

  • To abide by and promote VAANI’s policy of informed choice, its vision and values and equal opportunities statement
  • Compliance with VAANI’s  policy and practice requirements with respect to health and safety, child protection, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures
  • Ensure the efficient use of all VAANI resources in order to maximize use of resources for benefiting deaf children and their parents
  • Contribute to a positive working environment

This list of tasks is not exhaustive and will be reviewed from time to time in discussion with the post holder. The emphasis on all areas of work in VAANI Deaf Children’s Foundation is a team approach. The post holder will be expected to attend meetings and be involved in other activities at irregular hours if required.
